2014 Oscars Fashion Reviews

I have been waiting weeks for the Oscars and finally they were here! I enjoyed Ellen DeGeneres as host very much. She is never crude or vulgar and yet still so funny. Love her! Lots of great moments for those who won and everyone seemed to get along well. Here is my fashion wrap-up:

Amy Adams - her dress was simple and some say boring but it fit her sooo well (like fondant Steve said lol) and the color works well for her.
Anne Hathaway - at first I thought this dress was too heavy metal, and then when she got on stage to present all the lights would reflect off it and almost blind us viewers
Bradley Cooper - Yum. Just yum.
Cate Blanchett - Her dress featured the illusion neckline which is popular for wedding gowns right now, I think she looked great and her speech was nice, she's grown on me over the award season.
Charlize Theron - Such a beautiful women, overall I loved the dress except the straps I think it should of had bling
Kate Hudson - AMAZING! She looks fabulous and gets my vote for best dressed. The dress worked well both with and without the cape
Julia Roberts - I love this different style of dress for her, I would wear it!
Sandra Bullock - very elegant, like the color
Penelope Cruz - I did not like this dress at all. Just the craftsmanship and excess of fabric was too much toga party like for me
Meryl Streep - I love this woman. She looked so elegant with the one shoulder top. Love it, love her!
Jennifer Lawrence - America's newest sweetheart, she yet again fell but is so graceful and hilarious. I like her in this more fitted look.
Jenna Dewam-Tatum - forget how handsome her husband Channing looked, this was another favorite for me with the illusion neckline.
Matthew & Camilla - Beautiful couple, I liked both her dress and I loved his speech. Power to him for making it about him.
Lupita Nyong'o - Love the color on her but wish the neckline wasn't so deep. She carried it well though and glad she won.
Giuliana Rancic - My girl crush, loved her dress. I would so wear it for my wedding dress if I could.

Recipe: Cranberry Orange Pistachio Biscotti

I have been on a real biscotti kick this winter. While I have done less baking since the new year due to my weightloss, I wanted to share with you my favorite recipe. I found it originally in a Chatelaine magazine and then adapted it a little bit to fit my likings.

  • 2 1/4 cups  flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup margarine, at room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped pistachios
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 2 tbsp orange juice (I also tried orange brandy and it was marvelous!)

  1. Preheat oven to 325F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Stir flour with baking powder and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. In large bowl, beat margarine with sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  4. Stir in flour mixture until well combined. Stir in pistachios, cranberries, and orange.
  5. Gather dough together and divide in half on prepared sheet. Shape each portion into a 2" wide and 3/4" high log. Place logs 3" apart as they will spread width-wise.
  6. Bake 30-35 minutes until tops are almost firm but still golden. Remove from oven and let stand until cool enough to touch (about 10 minutes).
  7. Cut each into 1/2" slices and arrange back on baking sheet cut side down.
  8. Bake for additional 20-30 minutes. (Less is better I say for some moistness).
Yum! Enjoy!

Christmas Table Decor

I am a couple weeks late with this post but I still wanted to share as I had some nice pictures. If anything here are ideas for next year haha! Every year I help my mom set the table for her big Christmas Day dinner. Since I've had my own business I usually use a few of my own things to spice it up which secretly drives my aunt crazy. A healthy family competition of course! This year I wanted to use this willow green satin from my collection.

Willow green with gold on white linens
Special centerpiece I made. Mom loves candles so I wanted to throw one in there and I love pinecones :)
One long table for 25 people.
This was an arrangement I made for her other table. My sister had given her some wrapped mixed bouquet of flowers that morning and mom handed it to me and said do something with this lol. So I made into a large table arrangement. Looked like twice the amount of flowers!

Recipe: Bourbon Banana Pudding

Last weekend we celebrated Steve's birthday and he specifically requested banana pudding instead of cake. So I rose to the challenge and had to knock it out of the park. The pudding was scrapped out of the dish every last bit! Who's a bad blogger and accidentally deleted the only copy of the picture? This girl!

  • 1 container of Cool Whip
  • 1 package of cream cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 box of vanilla instant pudding
  • 6 bananas, sliced
  • 1 box of Nilla wafers
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 tbsp sugar

  1. In a 13x9 dish, layer the Nilla wafers.
  2. Next layer the sliced bananas.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, bourbon, milk, and vanilla pudding mix.
  4. Fold in Cool Whip, stirring until blended.
  5. Layer over bananas.
  6. Lastly, layer some more Nilla wafers.
  7. Let set in fridge for at least 2 hours in refrigerator.

Golden Globes Fashion Wrap-Up

It's awards season YAY!!! Starting off with People's Choice Awards last week which was badly hosted by the ladies from Two Broke Girls, that award shows seems to need a bigger budget. no? Moving along to the Golden Globes this past weekend, it was a really great show hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Awesome job ladies!! There was some crazy fashion too. Seemed everyone was pushing out of their comfort zones this year. Here is my reviews of the highs and lows of the red carpet:

Amy Adams - looking great! but this kinda reminds me of a superhero for some reason
Giuliana Rancic - the color grew on me but something is just off, is it the tulle skirt maybe?
Jennifer Lawrence - who doesn't have a crush on her?! I like the Dior dress but I think it may have needed a bit more tailoring at the top.
Julia Roberts - love her, not the dress. Felt boring to me but she is still so beautiful she could have shown up in pyjamas
Julianna Margulies - I typically do not like her style but I actually love this dress. The cut is beautiful and I like the brocade gold work.
Zoe Saldana - major FAIL...and she was bragging the designer made this specifically with her in that a compliment?
Sofia Vergara - FINALLY something other than a mermaid silhouette, I think she rocked the necklace
Paula Patton - way to over the's like the attack of the ruffles!
Matthew & Camilla - HOTTEST. COUPLE. EVER. that is all.
Lena Dunham - sooo not flattering, time to get a stylist chicky.
Zooey Deschanel - I love this throwback style and the delicate bead work on the top.

The Possibilities Are Endless

Looking back on the previous year, there were a lot of challenging moments I went through but hey I survived. Instead of concentrating on what happened that year, I would rather look forward to what lies ahead because that I can somewhat control. The beginning of a new year can be overwhelming for me because of the pressure to make New Years' resolutions and to make it all count. I'm instead going to focus on what I would like to see happen this year and what I will be concentrating on...after all, the possibilities are endless!

  1. Be the best me. I am going to focus more on myself. Why some may think that is selfish, how can I be the best me for everyone else if I haven't made the best of me.
  2. Find new job. I was laid off last year from my daytime administrative job and have found an interim job to pay the bills but I would like to find one I truly enjoy while still being flexible enough to have my own business. It ain't easy.
  3. Create new designs. I would to bring into my business new creative designs and products. I enjoy offering my clients new things that are affordable at same time.
  4. Portugal. I would like to visit my family in Portugal. My grandma turns 92 this year and I miss her so much.
  5. Blog more. Finding the time has been challenging of late.
