Dreaming of a New Office

I have been dreaming of a redesigned office space for awhile now.  My 3rd bedroom is currently where I have my office/treadmill room, however its not very glamourous.  At times I think about throwing it in the basement and turning the spare room into a walk-in closet instead (I have alot of shoes!).  Then I think maybe make it into a closet desk and use the space for my closet / treadmill room.  Then other times I want all the space to spread out into an office....SIGH!!!  For now i'll keep thinking what would work best for me.  Here are my favorite designs on Pinterest lately:

A cute little corner under the stairs...good use of space!

Like the Ikea cube on top which I have already but on the floor....does it look too top heavy though??

Love the antique desk

I love the cabinets on top and the U-shape desk...i love me some storage!!

Closet desk area!  I like it....

Recipe: Homemade Turtles

I made these for our holiday open house and boy were they a hit.  I've had more then one special request for them since then so here today I share with all of you the goodness that is the homemade turtle.  They are truly supereasy but I don't tell everyone that so I look like a goddess in the kitchen lol.

What You Need:
  • Bag of pretzels (any sort will do really, I used the traditional twist type)
  • Rolo Chocolate Bars (at least 4 but any about will do depending how many you want)
  • Pecan Halves (a small bag should do)
What You Do:
  1. Heat oven to 350F.
  2. On a cookie sheet, spread out a good amount of pretzels.
  3. Place one individual Rolo on each pretzel evenly in center.
  4. Place in oven for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Take out of oven and immediately place one pecan halve on each pressing lightly down.
  6. Let stand to firm up.  You can also thrown in fridge to speed up the setting process.
Get ready to enjoy these fast!

DIY Umbrella Stand

Steve has been trying to convince me that we need an umbrella stand at our front door for months now but I didn't think it would look good as our front door space isn't large.  We decided to think outside of the box and give it a try.  I must admit that he was right, it does look pretty cute where it is.  We had the vase already at home as part of my rental vases so all we needed to purchase was the paper.  We were orginially going to use scrapbook paper or fabric but we were passing through a dollar store and saw these drawer decals which were really nice and we knew it would give it the look we wanted.

Here's how it goes:

We used a 20" Cylinder Vase, with a 6" opening.  We also opted to add a piece of foam at the bottom in case we drop the umbrella a little roughly in the vase one day.

The roll of drawer decal was about 18" wide so we had to overlap a 2" piece at the bottom but you can't tell.  Isn't the paper pretty?

Ta-da! Look at sitting pretty with my polka dot umbrella :)

Steve wins this one...

Recipe: Dangerous Brownies

O.M.G....these are dangerously good!  The original name is Slu**y Brownies but in an effort to keep it PG i'm calling them Dangerous Brownies.  This idea was floating around Pinterest and I made it for dessert on Saturday.  Here's how it goes:

First, press one package (tube) of Pillsbury cookie dough into a dish or pan.

Layer Oreo cookies on top.

Spoon prepared from box fudge brownies on next.

Crumble some Oreo cookies on top and throw in 350F oven for about 30 minutes.

Ta-da! Ready for heavy consumption :)

Served up in a bowl with ice cream...yummy!

Venue Spotlight: CPR Pavillion

This is definitely one of my favorite spots.  The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Pavillion is connected to the Fairmont Palliser, hovering over the street below.  I love the large windows that let you see the cars driving from underneath in to the distance and the lights from surrounding buildings. While it might not be glitz and glam, it has history and great views. I had an event there this past weekend and took a few snaps:

View from the middle window...bit of a glare from my camera.

Antique bell on display amongst other artifacts.

The 12m high rotunda

Beautiful art deco floor with view of the large windows

Looking from east to west

From the front windows

Tall windows

Look at the beautiful ceiling!

My most favorite part...the staircase!

Recipe: Pineapple-Glazed Meatballs

Most people like sweet & sour foods or they hate them. them!  Steve doesn't particularily enjoy them but he agreed this recipe was delicious the first time I made them and I think i'm going to make them again tonight.  I'll whip some rice with some leftover sauce from Monday's dinner for Steve and since i'm trying to be good i'm going to have a small salad with my portion.  Here's the recipe:

1/2 cup BBQ Sauce (i used Kraft Garlic flavour)
1/2 cup crushed pineapple in juice, undrained, canned
45 frozen fully-cooked meatballs

Mix BBQ sauce, and pineapple in large skillet.  Stir in meatballs until evenly coated.  Bring contents to boil on med-high heat.  Simmer on med-low heat for 15 minutes or so, stirring occasionally.

A Weighty Quote

“Why is this attitude even there – that to be loved and successful and wanted in life, you have to be thin? I mean, how do those things add up?”
