First Day of Fall

This past weekend we welcomed the fall season in (we had no choice really) by taking in a stroll at nearby South Glenmore Park.  It's beautiful there this time of the year with the changing colors in the trees and the water was still so clear.  Looking forward to a few more fall strolls before the dreaded snow hits.

2012 Emmy Fashion Review

Last night were the televised 2012 Emmy Awards.  I was most hopeful to see Mad Men win some awards but unfortunately it just wasn't their year.  I personally wasn't a fan of the host this year.  Just wasn't as funny as past hosts.  But, alas my favorite part anyways is the fashion.  Here is my review on the red carpet:

Jessica Pare (Mad Men) - i love the classic black & white (yes even after labour day) paired with simple accessories and red lipstick

Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) - this is a fun look for her and she owns it

Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon A Time) - daring color and style but she totally pulls it off

Julianna Marguiles - this is how to do a print

Julianne Moore, Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Claire Danes (Homeland) - hello yellow!

Sophia Vergara (Modern Family) - it seems to me she always the same silhouette and yes, why not if it works for her but i'm bored with it.

Stamped Monogram Napkins

Steve and I like to evoke a little retro feel to our lives and when we started experimenting with making cocktails we thought it would be cool to have little bar napkins to serve them in.  Of course we decided to take it one step further and personalize them.  To buy them on the internet was either too expensive or well-priced but then you were stuck with way too many.  So I was determined to find a DIY way and came up with this:

Supplies: alphabet stamp letters (we didn't like the ready-to-use ones because the fonts for our initals looked weird so we bought the letters and affixed to bobbins we found in clearance bin...either way works!), beverage-size napkins (purchased at dollar store), black ink pad, stamp cleaning pad.

Stamp affixed to bobbin

stamp anywhere you like on napkin (not too hard so doesn't bleed)... as our initals are both "S" we decided to do one in each corner.  You can choose to just do one corner, or centre, or overlap initals.

Napkin is ready

Bottoms up!

We also tried it using Versa-Mark on black napkins but doesn't show up quite as much as we liked

Recipe: Watermelon Mojitos

Oh how I have loved mojitos this summer!  I enjoyed a few more this past long weekend and we got daring and tried a watermelon flavored instead of our current favorite - the tangerine mojito.

  • 1 cup watermelon cubes
  • fresh mint leaves
  • 1oz simple sugar
  • ice cubes
  • 1 1/2oz rum (we like to use Havana rum instead of just any clear rum)
  • club soda
How To:

  1. Muddle watermelon, simple sugar and a couple sprigs of mint together in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add ice and rum to shaker and well.. shake it!
  3. Pour into glass filled with ice and garnish with another sprig of mint and some watermelon balls.  I FINALLY found a use for my melon baller!
