Date Night Lasagna


The weather has been getting colder and Steve has been working late hours so we haven't really had a chance to have a date night and go anywhere.  That's why I decided to bring date night home.  I prepared my favorite lasagna and went the extra mile setting the table for when he got home.  I used actual white linen tablecloth instead of our usual placemats, linen napkins, votive candles, and a little floral centerpiece.  I didn't have to go buy anything.  What made it special was using what we had around the house.  Steve really appreciated everything and we ended up sitting at the table in the candlelight most of the night...polishing off the bottle of wine!

Lasagna

Mom's Lasagna
  • 1 pkg of lean ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1 jar pasta sauce
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Cheese Whiz
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 pkg whole wheat lasagna noodles
  • shredded cheese (i used marbled here)
  • olive oil
How-To:
  1. Brown the onion and garlic together with a bit of olive oil.
  2. Add ground beef and brown.
  3. Add oregano, pasta sauce, tomato paste, and cheese whiz.  Combine and let simmer.
  4. In separate pot, cook lasagna noodles as per package instructions.
  5. In rectangular pyrex dish, start your layers.  Noodles first, then layer with meat sauce, noodles, sauce, etc etc until you are about 1/2" from top of dish finishing with meat layer.  Spread shredded cheese evenly on top. 
  6. Cover with aluminum foil (spray with non-stick first so doesn't touch cheese).
  7. Bake at 350F for about an hour.
It always tastes even more delicious the next day!  You can also let cool after doing the layers and freeze to bake in future.
