Emmy Awards 2013 Review

Last night was the 2013 Emmy Awards. They are almost like the start of TV season. I was excited to see the fashion and watch Neil Patrick Harris as host because I think he is amazing. He did a wonderful job and I like how he added some song and dance along the way keeping it interesting. His humor is awesome and hilarious without being crude. Here are my highs and lows from the red carpet:

Colbie Smulders looks gorgeous! Can't wait for the final season of HIMYM

Amanda Peet looks way too goth. Don't think this was right for Emmys.

Love Amy Poehler's choice. Something different but still elegant. Did you see her and Tina Fey's skit?!

Anna Faris was bright but maybe too much with the heavy bangs? Looking forward to her new show.

Clair Danes is washed out. The dress sparkled on stage but the insert in the middle looked too big for the dress.

Loving this color and this dress is beautiful. Good choice Sarah Hyland.

Oh, Jon Hamm...I wish you would look more like Don Draper off stage. I hate the beard.

There's that green again. Mayim Bialik looks amazing in green.

Now this is age appropriate and fun! Good job Kiernan Shipka.

While everyone else has high end couture gowns, Sarah Silverman got this dress online for $60 apparently, and still rocked it.

Sofia Vergara in another tight mermaid dress. Can't we try something else?!

Recipe: Pork Tenderloin with Sweet Potato

Delicious pork tenderloin slowly barbecued on a charcoal grill to perfection! This was seriously good. It was so easy to slice into and still moist inside! The sweet potatoes were our summer staple this year. We cut them in rounds this time instead of cubes or wedges.

  • pork tenderloin
  • coarse salt
  • black pepper
  • lemon pepper seasoning
  • olive oil
  • sweet potato
  1. In a bowl, take the pork tenderloin and sprinkle with the salt, peppers, and olive oil. Rub it into the tenderloin. Cover and let marinate for at least 2 hours.
  2. Chop your sweet potato any way you wish (we did rounds this time). Sprinkle with black pepper, salt, and olive oil.
  3. Place tenderloin first on grill as it will take a bit longer than potatoes. Grill on indirect heat for about 45 minutes. Potatoes will take about 30 minutes.

This is How We S'mores

As summer comes to an end, we are trying to get as much use out of our Weber as possible. Soon the white stuff we call snow will cover our deck. This has been one of the fun things we have done this summer. Since we don't have room for a firepit we improvised with our charcoal barbecue. I've had a lot of people laugh or ask what it looks like so here you go. Great memories!

Summer Favorite Dessert

As summer comes to a close, we are lucky enough to have absolutely beautiful weather this weekend. It is really the best way to end summer on a long weekend. Kids are back to school tomorrow and inn a few weeks fall will be here. Since the weather is so nice here this weekend we have had multiple bbq's around town. I made this family favorite recipe to take to one of them and every last bit was devoured! So easy and so yummy!

Easy Ice Cream Cake

  • ice cream sandwiches
  • caramel sauce
  • whipped topping
  • chocolate bar pieces

  1. In a pyrex dish, layer the sandwiches.
  2. Drizzle the caramel sauce on top evenly.
  3. Add another layer of ice cream sandwiches.
  4. Top with the whipped topping evenly.
  5. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the whip cream and sprinkle with crushed chocolate bar pieces. I usually use Skor!
  6. Freeze for at least 4 hours before serving :)
Enjoy! Happy Summer :)
